Who was this "presumptuous underling"  DR Zachary Smith that tried to murder the  Robinson Family?

Why Did they accept him after that?

Why did he try to kill them in the First place? 

What this TV viewer misSed then is that the  "Jupiter 2" Generation would orbit around a Center of Political Gravity That would be, it says here, GReEn. 

Their shared cultural and family values were otherwise in agreement; i.e., they understood his motives and accepted them.
